Dan Hartley

Hounsfield, New York

Dan has worked with wood for most of his life. He started at just 10 years old in his dad’s cabinet shop. Dan then got his first chainsaw since cutting firewood was one of his duties. He also worked climbing trees, taking them down, and trimming them while doing disaster relief. About ten years ago, Dan got the urge to start pursuing the artistic side of woodworking. Chainsaw carving seemed like it fit.

Dan's style is somewhere between realistic and stylistic. His main goal is to try to learn and improve with each piece! He still enjoys doing competitions, but mostly likes to carve at the shop in upstate New York. He loves each new challenges that this art form brings, but his favorite thing to carve is owls. You can check out all of his work on his social media pages.
